This is to inform you that some of thc important proceedings of thc meeting will be continued in thc next iss"c, or some other publication that will bt provided for same. Space would not allow us at this time to print all so we hope you will consider the predicament. Many of our agents write, asking what consideration shall they expect for selling thc papers. You sell the papers for 10c per copy and keep 10c of each dollar for yourself, deduct for postage and send in balance, within ten days if possible. For example, as follows: You have 50 papers, you sell them for 10c each; that comes to $5.00. You keep 10c of each dollar which is 50c; that leaves $4.50. You take fie to pay for money order, $3 for stamps, which equals lie. lie plus 50c equals 61c, therefore you mail us order for $5.00 less 01c, which will make the order $4.,'i'J you send to the office. Is that clear? Some promised to send in their subscriptions as soon as they returned home from the meeting. Of course, that was some 15 days ago, and wc truly hope you have reached home by this writing and will send in that $1.10. Send all monies to the Editor, 820 N. Montgomery St., Memphis, Tenn. Some wrote us that they sent in important reports and found them in the church briefs. Wc. beg to advise that unless a reasonable donation accompany your report it will always be found in the briefs. We ask you to remember thc general dollar money, $1.00 from each member lo be sent to Elder C. H. Mason, 112! Mississippi Ave, Mem phis, Tenn., by the first Sunday in April, 1934. All that were at thc past meeting could sec the need of a new building, therefore this call is urgent. If we start in time gathering this dollar money wc will be able to make a round report by the set time. Yours for a bigger church, MRS. ELIA V. SPARKS, Editor. : BRO EDWARD A. rnOPER. Co-Editor. BISHOP DilBOSE HITS NATION'S FLESHPOTS AMERICA WILL PERISH UNLES8 IT REPENTB, HE SHOUTS "Open license of drink and vast ex hibits of private and public Bin" now flourish In America; unless thc nation repent "it will, and must perish," Bishop DuBose declared in a sermon at the Harris Memorial Methodist Church. The bishop took his text from Ha- bakkuk 3:3, "God came from Teman and the Holy One from the heavens, and thc earth was full of his praise." The bishop continued: "Here is a record of great thinking done in a time of great and tragic happenings, great emotions, great and dread experiences. Though falling 3,000 years in the past, it bears aspects of strong resemblance to the thoughts, life and activities of our own day; if happily we can make high use in our own thoughts of its precedents and warnings. "The key to thc meaning of this Old Testament situation is that of the personality of the young prophet, Ha- bakkuk. A man of like spirit will be able to read in our own times of stress, challenge and dread, a like vision of glory and of good; and to give place to thc same manner of great thoughts as those which make up the masterful imageries and dramatic movements found in the Book of Habakkuk. Prophet Needed "This day of the New Deal in America needs a great prophet to see truth, to see righteousness, to see God. It needs a great voice to proclaim repentance, right doing, right motive, sobriety, honesty and cleanness of motive. "Habakkuk was the last of the writing prophets before, the Jewish exile <¥XWJ'SA*Z NATIONAL \ EDITION 1 RT FROM JERU8ALEM, BUT WAIT FOR THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER WHICH 8AYETH HE YE BAPTIZED WITH THE HOLY GHOST NOT MANY DAYS HENCE."—Acta 1:5-8. PAGE NO. 9 HIS. TENN., FEBRUARY, 1934 No. 1 ictory. Don't delay hV ending yen money to Seniin Bishop C. Hi Mason, 1121 Mississippi Ave., Memphis,.Tenn. This money will be used for the erection of a modern tabernacle. We are expecting each member of this great brotherhood to send in their dollar by the first Sunday in April. Let the overseers, pastors, state mothers and co-workers urge the saints everywhere to send in $1.00 to help put this program over. Ptacc in your '"^uUJiieans Nebuchadnezzar 10 years before that event happened; but thc king and the people laughed him to scorn, saying, Jerusalem is invulnerable and unconquerable.' "Thereupon he repaired to a walch tower on Mount Quarantana nine miles from Jerusalem from which for 10 years he issued warnings; but promised that Jehovah would withhold his wrath if only the people would repent of their drunkenness and idolatries and walk in soberness, justice and righteousness. "But they would not repent; and so the holy city and its beautiful temple perished in seigc and flame and the people went away to a long bondage. If a prophet should arise in America today and say, 'Except the people of this republic repent of their sins of drunkenness, dishonesty, greed and uncleanness. the whole land shall perish.' lie would be laughed to scorn. "And yet Nineveh perished, and Jerusalem and Babylon and the old Rome, and the barbaric and militaristic empires of the Romanoffs and Hohenzollcrns; and America may—except its people repent, it will—it must. Great thinking can be done only in the midst of great sorrowings. In its open license of drink and its vast exhibits of private and public sins, and in thc troubled conditions of our national life, the present day furnishes thc surroundings. O for the voice of Habakkuk, of John the Baptis.t of St. Paul, of Sa- vanarola. "Great thinking is prophecy. It can be done only in thc consciousness of the presence of God and His judgments in the individual hearts of men, in life, in history; and in the rewards which come to faith and righteousness." MEMORIAM In memory of our beloved Brother Ben Thompson, whom thc Lord saw fit to call from labor to reward on Dec. 11, 1933. Brother Thompson was a true saint, he lived thc life and proved faithful unto the end. He was a helpful worker in the church. He served as church treasurer, Sunday school teacher and deacon. We shall miss his songs and smiling face. But thc will of the Lord must be done. Sleep" on, Brother Thompson And take your rest, You have fought a good fight, You have finished your course. Greetings in Jesus' name. We wish to report victory over sin and the devil. We thank God for Jesus and for how he has led us thus far. Truly he is a leader who knows how to lftd those who desire to follow him. He passed this way to bring salvation to a lost world, when wc in no way could deliver ourselves. He came forth, paid the price and made it possible for those who would come unto him and accept his wonderful plan of salvation. He looked from the beginning of time to the end of this world and made it possible that each generation in their time as they pass thru this world could enjoy him (Jesus) according to the desire of their heart. Then if we are not enjoying him today it is because we are standing in our own way. Jesus died that we might have life and that more abundantly. Now let us look to him as never before as this New Year passes on. Let Lus keep our minds stayed on him. We cannot express his greatness to the sons of men he is worthy of all consideration and he is greatly to be praised. Elder W. T. TOLLIVER, Reporter. MARO. AUK, TKTIM0NY Greetings in Jesus' dear nan-.e. I am glad that I can report victory over sin. I wish to tell of the wonderful healing power of God. In September, 1933, I was lying on my bfjd, I had a vision. I saw a man standing- near my bedside, who said to me you have a very bad stomcah and you will have to have an operation and after thc operation you will have ten days of grievance. Then suddenly the man disappeared. I then turned to thc Lord and began to pray. I decided to go through ten days of grievance before God before having au operation. I began to pour out my complaint before the Lord, with a serious grievance. On thc tenth day God truly healed mo of my infirmities. Before this after eating I would have terrible gas pains. My stomach would stay swollen and I did not have a waist line. But thank God, today I am healed. The swelling has gone out of my stomach and I have a waist line. My stomach feels as it did when I was a girl and I am over 50 years eld. The Lord has done great things for mc whereof I am glad. I desire your prayers. SISTER L. A. BERRY. BELL BUCKLE, TENN. Greetings. We thank the Lord for being saved, sanctified and baptized with the Holy Ghost and Fire according to Acts 2:4. T thank the Lord for this wonderful paper which I have been reading ever since September, 1929, when I was saved at Union Ridge in thc school building where I was teaching. Ever since that time I have desired others to know of Jesus in thc Holy Ghost. About the last of September the Lord stirred Sister Katie King, district missionary, to run a meeting in Bell Buckle, Tennessee. She invited the members of Shelbyville and Union Ridge to attend. Elder Bright and his loyal members, Brother J. J. Mahon and others of us attended. Thuly God worked among the men and women of that place. Nino souls were saved, sanctified and baptized with the Holy Ghost and Fire, over which Brother Mahon has bee^n appointed as pastor. Pray much for these babes in Christ and that God will continue to save souls in Bell Buckle. Pray also that God will save souls in Haley, Tenn., where I am now teaching. BRO. J. J, MAHON, Pastor. SIS. A. H. BHAJiE, Reporter NOTICE Greetings. Elder L. C. Page, national evangelist of the Church ijf God in Christ, is asking that the Saints everywhere send in a request offering to help Elder Saint Samuel, who has been much afflicted. Elder Samuel's expense for answering letters is often more than one dollar per day. Please let us help him by sending him a request offering at once. Send difectly to his address, 958 So, Fifth St., Memphis, Tenn. We arc also asking that thc Saints everywhere set aside Feb. 15-10-17 as days for fasting and praying for Elder Samuel that God will heal his body. Supper may be eaten at 5 o'clock each afternoon. ELDER L. C. PAGE. Even so, come Lord Jesus. CHRISTIAN STANDARDS OF LIFE From the lime thc rinciples of Jesus were first preached, down to our time the Christian standards of life have differed from the standards held and practiced by the world. Before Christians were called such, they were known as followers of "the way." This identification came to them naturally because the mode of life among them was different from the general mode of life around them. Simplicity, liberality, fellowship, boldness and holy zeal existed in striking contrast with thc pomp, legal giving, cold aloofness, self-satisfaction, and smugness of the general order. The "new way" was the Christian way, guided by Christian standards and wap intended to continue>4lirough all tiniilas the acceptable jwy to live 05 klyj. many discinf-'-Jyho joined up tit. '-flomes and ttfeir occupations and c|4vote all their Jims . Lo .Ij>us. All, however, were led lo give up their old 'standards of motives and practices and to accept Jesus' standards in believing, inconduct, in motives, and in spirit. Thc initial step into the Christian way has always been the same. Thc worldly way, with its independence of Christ, its self-sufficiency, its excuses for sin, its approval of indwelling evil, its social shading of truth, its selfish grasping for personal advantage, its seeking for pleasure and thrills in the "far country," its attempts to feed the soul on the "bread that satisficth not," lies along a vastly divergent line from the Christian way. All who wish to be Christians in truth must live by Ihe new standards Jesus set up. One cannot lead the blind unless he, himself, can see. One cannot leach unless he, himself, has been taught How can one practice Christian standards, or lead others to do so, unless he is himself a real Christian. There is no such thing as a Christian family unless thc members, at least the chief members, arc Christians. It is folly to think that thc practice of Christians ideals can be spread like a mantle over great groups of people. Christian ideals can be spread like a of thc hearts of those who have been made Christians and who continuously grow in grace. Thc greatest means of cultivating thc devotional life is the practice of prayer. No amount of service activities can take the place: of this. Prayer is probably thc greatest privilege granted to man- Prayer is not alone asking God for favors. That is a part of prayer, but not Hit whole of it. Prayer is communion. I,t includes both talking with and listening to God. Jesus early taught his followers, both by instruction and by example how lo pray. One thing which could not escape them as they observed Him in prayer was that, prayer was a great necessity in his ministry aud in his own personal life. He could not live without communion with His Father. And wc arc powerless and lifeless if wc do not pray. Christian standards are not for the Christian's inner life alone, but for thc out-reach of his, life as well. Christian living has an objective phase. Jesus was not only God's divine Son; He was also the Good Shepherd in his relations wijh men. As His divine life expressed itself in service to others, so the Christian's inner life will find expression JTbjr itself. Christian standards for the family mean a father and apmother united in purpose to make thejr home clearly Christian in spirit, its businss, its associations, its government and training of the childi-eil, its contributions to the following generations, and its handling of the internal problems that arise. There are also Christian standards for local and national citizenship in respect to observance of the law. Living up to Christian standards of conduct in obseri'injj BISHOP E. M. PAGE 3108 Thomas St. Dallas, Tex. the law would make it necessary for a Court of Appeals to render a decision such as it did recently, that a person who violates thc provisions of the Prohibition Act cannot be loyally patriotic, "nor can it be said that such a person possesses good moral character." There is a Chritian standard for vocations, and for thc use of money, of talents, of leisure, and of influence. HEALTH_0F BODY For thc benefit of our readers we arc offering a new column in this paper, opened in the general interest of thc physical health of our bodies. Thc Lord wants us to have good health and prosper in it. III. Thc praises of God still ring out of our souls for a saved, sanctified and Holy Ghost filled life. Wc are in thc service of thc great King under the leadership of our dear shepherd, Eld. Van Goodlaw and wife. Wc praise God for Godly men and women leaders. We thank and praise God for the progress of every auxiliary in the church. Thc interest for the New Year seems stirred as never before. We were blessed to have Elder Isaac Finley of Sacramento with us. Elder Finley is an able and spiritual, sin- fighting minister. Mother Jordan of Oakland spent one week with us and really stirred the hearts and minds of saints and sinners. Several were healed to the glory of God. We were sorry to see Elder Finley and Mother Jordan leave and hope they will some day come again. Elder James Jackson and wife of Pasadena also visited us and put the devil to flight through their messages. We thank God for such fire brands for Jesus. Wc pray God will send them back to us for such help is a blessing to any community. We are now entering into a series of meetings conducted by Elder E. R. Driver of Los Angeles who comes with an ax in one hand and a hammer in the other to slay sin and unrighteousness. We are expecting souls to be saved and filled wtih the Holy Ghost and -fire and the devil to be made mad and hearts made glad and new witnesses added to the body. Pray for our success and for the leaders of each department that sweeping victory be ours in Jesus- dear name. ELDER VAN GOODLAW, Pastor. SISTER B. PORTER, p.j.-portsr.

Elder L. C. |
