Description

Photograph of a view of Jerome, Arizona, [s.d.]. Weeds spot the grassy hill in the foreground on the right as it leads down to the city on the left. Several large buildings stand in a row with a small dirt road separating them from wide fields on the far left. Beyond the fields, the city is congested with small buildings and houses. The crowded city continues to a block of huge factories which stand at the foot of grassy hills in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
