Description

Photograph of an aerial view of the Jameson Oil Refinery, 1925. A large complex of cylindrical tanks and long, interspersed buildings can be seen filling much of the image, while at center, a single quadrant includes a building with the company logo on its roof. Mountainous terrain can be seen in the upper righthand edge of the image. Automobiles are visible on the wide dirt roads that run throught the refinery.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
