Description
Photograph of overland travelers arriving in Palm Springs in a wagon, ca.1880 (1898?). At the foot of a mountain range, there is a four-wheeled wagon hitched to a team of four dark, skinny horses; behind the wagon are two men wearing broad brimmed cowboy hats while mounted on horses. The frame of the wagon's cover can be seen arching over its five occupants, but the canvas cover is not in place. The wagon contains a man, two boys, a woman and a girl, as well as what appear to be mattresses and other living necessities. Behind the parked wagon is a line of tall bushes. See CHS-936 which shows the same scene with a caption.
