Description

Photograph of a view of a narrow road through tall trees on a hill at Big Pines Camp, 1928. Long tree trunks are visible from the ground up on the right while branches can be seen extending out towards the top of the image. The branches are sparsely covered in leaves while a slim road can be seen at the bottom of the hillside to the left. A thick forest of tall coniferous trees extend into the distance behind the road on the left. Photoprint reads "Sturdy sentinels at Big Pine Camp".

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
