Description
Photograph of State seal of California, 1935. At center, the circular state seal of California can be seen. The seal is composed of an outer rim surrounding a smaller, circular image. The outer rim reads: "The Great Seal of The State of California". The words are symmetrically spaced around the rim. At the top of the inside image, an arc of stars can be seen with the word "Eureka" inscribed below. Below the arc, a picture of a female Spartan warrior is shown holding a spear in her right hand and a shield with a picture of an angel in her left hand. The warrior wears a thick plate of armor and a Spartan helmet and can be seen kneeling down on the grassy plain. Beside the warrior, a young bear is visible standing near a bundle of wheat. To the left, a small figure of a worker is shown holding a pickaxe over his head, as though to strike the rock wall in front of him. A shovel can be seen lying near the man on the ground, and a small miniature of an industrial factory can be seen to the right. In the extreme background, five large boats with sails can be seen moving along the ocean between large mountain ranges. At the top of the image, the words "Grizzly Bear" are visible. The bottom of the image also has text, but it has deteriorated.
