Description
Photograph of a northward view of Hill Street from the roof of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce Building, February 1932. Hill Street runs from the foreground at left to the background at right. It is a wide paved road with a set of streetcar tracks in the middle and large buildings on both sides. A gas station and a parking lot can be seen in the foreground at center. A row of mountains can be seen across the image in the background. Many early-model automobiles can be seen on the roads.; Legible signs include, from left: "Strength Bros. Overalls", "Handy Auto Park", "Pacific Desk Company 1031 W. Hill Street WE 3494 Est. 1912 T. F. Pierce, Pres.", "Stillwell Fireproof Hotel", "Insurance Exchange Building", "Belasco Theatre Now Playing Legitimate Drama", "A.S. Aloe Co.", "May Co.", and "Western Pacific Building".

California Historical Society Collection, 1860-1960
Description
The California Historical Society Collection is incomparable for the documentary picture it provides of the growth of Southern California, particularly the development of the Los Angeles region, between 1860 and 1960. The collection contains more than 25,000 photographs. The full archive was placed on long-term deposit at USC in 1990 and includes the Title Insurance and Trust Company Collection, also known as TICOR, and the Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection.
