Description
Photograph of female workers assembling shirts at a Garment District factory in Los Angeles, 1940-1950. A row of small tables with sewing machines on them is set up at center, and women can be seen sitting on both sides of the tables, hard at work on a variety of shirts. At right, several racks of completed shirts are visible. A large window looks out on the city in the background at center, while a woman stands and watches the sewing at left.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
