Description
Photograph of an exterior view of Empire Theatre, showing earthquake damage, Oakland, 1906. A finely-dressed couple walk along the sidewalk in the right foreground while a horse-drawn carriage passes them at center. Behind the carriage stands the small Empire Theatre with a lighted sign leaning to the right. The awning has ripped and fallen with only a small piece still hanging on the left side of the building. Cracks can be seen in the left wall and the left side of the roof appears to have crumbled. The building to the left of the theatre remains in tact.
