Description
Photograph of Main Street, looking north, Riverside, California, ca.1905. Horse-drawn vehicles are parked along both sides of the dirt street, while others travel up and down the street. The street is busy with pedestrian, bicyclist, and horse-drawn carriage traffic. Most of the buildings are commercial and about three-stories high, with the exception of a dome tower at right, which stands about four-stories tall. Utility poles line both sides of the street.; Legible signs include: "Cooper Bros music store", "Tailoring, dye works, 955, N.S. Wood", "M.T. Cunniff, sanitary plumbing, jobbing of all kind", "[...]d rooms", "[...]ella [...]gars", "Ed Herwick", "Great American Importing Tea Co.", "drugs", "D.S. Stores", "The Enterprise", "automobiles", "garage, 948", "Riverside cycle and sporting goods store". The photograph was likely taken at the intersection of Main and 9th Streets looking north-east down the Main Street. Of all the buildings visible, the only one still standing (as of August 2014) is the Loring building which can be seen on the far left side with its distinctive pyramid-shaped roof.
