Photograph of a Chinese merchant in an herb store weighing an item with a balance scale, ca.1935. A man wearing a tie and vest can be seen at center holding a horizontal stick from which a plate of some sort of item hangs from the left and a string with a pendant attached to it hangs from the right. A square piece of paper is visible on the waist-high table in front of the man, while drawers and glass cabinets holding various items can be seen behind the man.
