Description
Photograph of a painting by Edward Vischer depicting the Mission San Gabriel as seen from a distance, ca.1842-1865. The large, column-supported church of the mission is visible in the distance at center, two smaller buildings to its left. Mountains are visible shrouded by mist along the horizon, and several men on horseback stand in the foreground among the scrub vegetation of the plain. The text below the image reads: "1771 Founded", "Reminiscenses of Our First Visit at San Gabriel 1842" and "West View of the old orchard and the Church of the Ex-mission of San Gabriel (no trace left of the Mission Buildings)".
