Description
Photograph of a view of downtown Los Angeles looking west of Sixth Street from Hill Street, [s.d.]. Pershing Square is in the foreground at center. It is a large grassy are with many trees and a sidewalk running through the middle. Large buildings can be seen on two sides of the park, including the Pacific Mutual Life building at right. This building has a large clock on the corner at center. Another clock tower can be seen in the distance at left. Early-model automobiles are parked along the edges of the streets.; Legible signs include, from left to right: "Taits", "Wilson's Dancing Studio", "Better tells it all", "The Owl Drug Co.", "Time to insure", and "Pacific Mutual Life".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
