Description
Photograph of office buildings at Alhambra site of the Standard Oil Company, ca.1950. The office buildings stand, at center, with the left one bearing the sign "Alhambra Standard Oil Company" on its roof. Off to the right is a building with a sign advertising Pearl Oil for heating and light. To the left is a parked tank car. Storage tanks stand at the rear. The area is sealed off by a wire fence behind a dirt road. Grass dots the soil at left, and an arborous area can be seen in the background.

Title
Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
