Description

Photograph of two men posing with a swordfish on a pier, [s.d.]. At center, a swordfish hangs by its tail between what appears to be two wooden slats, which are pictured in the extreme foreground. To the right of the fish, two men in hats pose. The leftmost kneels closest to the fish, holding a gaff in the background. The second stands upright with one hand on the fish's fin, and a fishing pole in his other.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
