Description

Photograph of an exterior view of the Hall of Justice, March 31, 1931. A large palm tree shades the trimmed grass from the right foreground while a girl sits on the stone pedestal of a monument behind it at right. More palm trees stand with the lamp posts near the base of the tall, brick Hall of Justice. An American flag waves on a pole in front of the building at left. A second building can barely be seen on the far right.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
