Description
Photograph of the Pacific Circle building under construction, May, 1931. The tall, rectangular office building can be seen at center. The wall has been completed at left, while at right, the wall is incomplete. A tall tower with four small turrets on top can be seen in the background at left, while a multi-story brick building is visible at right. Large bushes can be seen in the foreground.; A large sign in the foreground at left lists information about the construction project: "State Office Building John C. Austin & Frederic M. Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
