Description

Photograph of rodeo cowpuncher, ca.1940. A bull seems to tackle a man with the force of its front legs in the center of the image. The bull has a thick rope tied around its middle with a bow visible on one side. The man lays on his back and appears to struggle to hold onto the neck of the animal while his hat rolls away. A cloud of dust is created by the thrashing of the bull. A bleacher full of people seems to be out of focus in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
