Description

Photograph of a rowing team receiving a trophy, ca.1930. Four shirtless men sit in a rowboat in the center while a man at the center of the boat stands in order to receive a trophy. To the left, a man in lightly colored clothing wearing a colorful hat bends down on stairs that lead into the water while extending his arms out to present the trophy to the man standing in the boat. A man in a pin striped suit stands on the stairs while another man seems to climb up behind him. The right of the image shows still water while ores jut out from both sides of the boat.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
