Description
Photograph of a painting depicting the Mission Santa Cruz the day after the earthquake, ca.1859. The entire front of the mission has collapsed to rubble, showing the interior and the altar, which stand behind the altar rail. A striped patter can be seen on the interior roof beams. Hilly terrain can be seen to the right. Picture file card reads: "photo obtained by Vischer", and "Picture appears to be the same as one The Pioneers Society of Cal. Credited to Mrs. Julia Matthew as the artist (see p.12)".
