Description
Photograph of a painting by Anton Hoffman, depicting ships warring in the Greek Battle of Salamis, [s.d.]. A group of Goths are pictured in the water at center, clinging to the remains of their sinking ship as roman vessels flank them to either side, the soldiers on board assailing them with arrows. A third roman vessel is capsizing in the background. The soldiers on board the roman ships appear to be in a chaotic frenzy. Hoffman created the painting in Meunchen.
