Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Hotel Avalon on the corner of Fifth Street and Towne Avenue in Los Angeles, [s.d.]. The three-story building is at center. A four-story tower rises from the corner of the building at center. The walls of the structures are made of wood, and several large rectangular windows can be seen on the upper stories. The right side of the first floor is taken up by a row of shops, and several large awnings are visible. A network of utility lines crosses the street overhead. Several pedestrians are visible on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. The hotel was owned by Benjamin Forrest Haddan. Legible signs include, from left: "Furnished Rooms", "Hotel Avalon Rooms", "Vicente P[?]uando Cigars The only Genuine", "Dr. Armstrong Physician. Dr. N. Kaschedin Dentist", "Try a Strawberry Sundae", "Home of Good Soda", "Crescent Drug Co.", "Avalina Restaurant", "Pool Room", "The Xpress", and "Perfection Dye Works".
