Description
Photograph of an interior view of the Mission Santa Barbara taken by photographer Edward Vischer, showing the altar, before 1875. A decorated archway in the foreground at the end of the hallway frames the rest of the scene, an arched doorway visible just beyond it to the right, next to which a wooden chair is situated. A bench is also pictured in the vicinity, to the left, beyond which the hallway is visible, lined to either side by windows and religious items. A Christian statue, possibly Christ or one of the saints, stands to the right, holding a cross. Several chandeliers of differing design hang down from the ceiling. The altar and pews are visible in shadow at the end of the corridor.
