Description
Photograph of a painting depicting Vesuvius erupting, with villagers attempting to escape, [s.d.]. The volcano billows smoke in the background, lava flowing down its slopes. In the foreground, villagers (possibly from Pompei) attempt to escape by loading mules, ox-drawn wagons and themselves with their possessions and fleeing from their wrecked homes down a dirt path that stands to the right. Some in the background move towards the lava, which is making its way down the road.
