Description
Photograph of the altar of the San Luis Rey de Francia Mission during the rededication by Franciscan, San Diego, California, ca.1900. The first service to be performed after forty years of inactivity, several priests approach the altar, which features a portrait of the Virgin Mary hung above a small crucifix which sits above a collection of flowers. The wall behind the altar is made of planks and appears to be in disrepair. To the right, a small table holds three candles and their candlesticks, a book and what appears to be the host and communion wine. Churchgoers are visible in the pews in the foreground. The roof's supports can be seen to either side at the top of the image.
