"Modern California architecture is design of proposed Chamber of Commerce Building to be constructed at Fourth and Bixel Streets. Thee will be 40,000 square feet of floor space in two floors and a 200-car parking lot will adjoin the planned structure. -- Opening of the campaign for funds to construct the new Chamber or Commerce building at Fourth and Bixel Streets was announced yesterday by Arthur C. Stewart, Union Oil Company vice president and chairman of the chamber's building committee. -- 'The Chamber's 5200 member firms and 14,000 individual members will contribute to the funds for the new headquarters building,' Stewart stated. 'The drive for the funds will open Monday.' -- 'Organized in 1888, the Chamber has given 66 years of outstanding community service and has occupied its present quarters at 1151 South Broadway since 1925.' -- The new building will have 40,000 square feet of floor space in its two stories, with a 200-car parking lot. Inside the building will be a 62-seat board room, three 50-seat committee rooms and six 25-seat conference rooms, expandable to larger capacity. -- It will be of modern California architecture and its central location near the major freeway interchange will afford easy access from all parts of the community, Stewart pointed out. -- Work will start as soon as sufficient funds are available, he added." -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 26 April 1954.; Photograph (1955) of a drawing. It is to occupy this new $1,000,000, two-story edifice on corner of Bixel and Fourth, west of the freeway." -- Examiner clipping attached to verso, dated 3 January 1956.; Streetscape.
