Description

Photograph of workers packing oranges, ca.1925. A tube-like system which runs down the center of the lightly-colored work station sends oranges to large bins on either side. The women on the left where lightly-colored aprons and hats as they face the background and move the oranges from the bins to wooden crates which they hold at their sides. The women on the right face the foreground and hold the crates in front of them as they fill them with oranges. More women work in a circle on an upper level of the plant in the background at center.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
