Description

Photograph of the irrigation of young orange trees, showing a row of trees between two irrigation ditches, October 25, 1933. The thin trees with dark leaves stand in a lane of dry soil with two dark strips of water on either side of them. They continue into the background where grown trees spot the faint hillside. More rows of young trees stand on the far left beyond a clear lane of grooved soil.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
