Description
Photograph of the interior of the Santa Paula Citrus Fruit Association lemon packing house, ca.1905-1919. The top left image shows two groups of women in a room of hundreds of stacks of pallets holding fruit. The center image shows ten women in aprons in two lines around a table grading pallets of fruit. The bottom image shows the packing room with men filling the pallets. Caption reads: "Work at the Santa Paula Citrus Fruit Association, composed of 90 growers, a member of the California Fruit Growers Exchange, shipping 'Sunkist' lemons. An addition larger than the present building is well under way, will make this organization the largest lemon packing house in the world, shipping 15 carloads of lemons a day. Roy Sheldon is the manager."
