Description

Photograph of a man loading crates of pre-cooled oranges into a railroad car, ca.1930. Five wooden crates filled with oranges can be seen on a conveyor belt from right to left into a railroad car. A man wearing a hat and apron can be seen at the end of the conveyor belt in the railroad car unloading the crates. The crate at right reads, "Sunkist Oranges". The conveyor belt is propped up by a few unstable stacks of empty crates.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
