Description

Photograph of workers loading a truck with oranges in the middle of an orange grove, ca.1948. The large flatbed truck is in the foreground at left and is facing away from the viewer to the right. The back of the truck is loaded high with crates of oranges. The crates are labeled "S.F. Hgts. Orange Assn". A man is standing on the cab of the truck and is securing a rope around the crates. Two more workers can be seen picking oranges from large trees in the background. A line of tall trees lines the edge of the field in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
