Description
Photograph of a man operating a box making machine which was used to produce orange crates in San Fernando Heights, Orange Association (cooling system), August, 1936. A man in a cap and dark overalls over his lightly-colored tank top stands on the left reaching for an empty crate labeled "Sunkist Oranges" which sits on a platform at center. Another crate sits in a machine on the right while an unlit light bulb hangs from the ceiling above it. What appears to be a stack of empty freshly-made crates stand behind the man on the left near a thick pipe that extends to the ceiling.

Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960
Description
The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
