Description

Photograph of women along a lake shoreline, ca.1930. At center, a group of four women look down at the water from the lake's edge. Two of the women sit near the water wearing lightly-colored shirts and striped, darkly-colored shorts. The other two women stand near shrubbery wearing lightly-colored apparel. In the background, two small sail boats with triangular sails move through the water. In the background to the left, a group of people standing in the water can be seen. In the extreme background, tall trees frame the lake's borders and a tall mountain rises against the sky.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
