Description

Photograph of orange groves and foothills in Southern California, ca.1910. Sunlight shines on the dark leaves of the groves which extend into the background. The trees are lightly spotted with oranges and shade the light grass below. Taller trees stand among several buildings and tall, skeletal towers.in the background on the right while more orange trees stand in rows on the left. The faint, grassy foothills stand behind the trees that line the back edge of the fields.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
