Description
Photograph of a double-decker street car in San Diego, ca.1903. At center a street-car is visible from the side facing to the right. A man wearing a dark jacket and hat is visible at right manning the controls, while three women are visible sitting inside the car behind the man. Two more women are visible on the second level of the car sitting on a bench. A man stands at left wearing a suit and hat. The car can be seen on tracks, while a utility pole and homes are visible in the background. Car #2 with motorman Sam Halton.

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
