Description
Photograph of a drawing of San Francisco and the bay in 1852, as seen from the west, showing water of the bay reaching back to Montgomery Street. Grids of city blocks occupy most of the area near the by. Some homes and buildings were built along the mountains or hills. Ships, many of which have sails, travel through the bay. A man, woman, two children and a dog are traveling up the hilly path (foreground at right).
