Description Photograph of a new citrus orchard in a residential area, ca.1910. Rows of small orange trees stand in the raked soil of the foreground. Two streets intersect behind the orchard at right. A row of taller trees lines the sidewalk at center while small plants spot the dry field behind them. Rows of trees and bushes decorate the yards of the houses at right while more trees and fields can be seen in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
