Description

Photograph of an exterior view of an unidentified processing plant, ca.1910. Rows of small orange trees grow in raked soil in the foreground while two streets intersect at right. A horse-drawn carriage sits on the far side of the road which reaches across center. An empty field lined with various trees lies behind them at right. Several large buildings stand at left with trees along their sidewalks and yards. Electrical poles stand in the right background while taller trees stand in the distance.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
