Title Man loading banana crops, ca.1925

Description Photograph of banana crops, ca.1925. Short trees with large, wing-like leaves that shade the ground below stand in rows on the right. Many large, dark bunches of bananas dangle from beneath the large leaves while others are carried on wooden handles on the shoulders of a man in a light shirt and tall, pointed hat on the left. A small structure stands with one, awkwardly-shaped window in the foreground on the far left with walls of what appear to be woven mats.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
