Description
Photograph of an exterior view of the Shinto Temple on Terminal Island at the Port of Los Angeles, ca.1920. The temple can be seen at center with a sloped roof. An outdoor staircase can be seen at right, while what appears to be a miniature temple propped up on a wooden pole can be seen towards the foreground. Foliage is visible in the extreme center foreground, while trees are visible at left and in the background. A second building is partially visible at right.; The Shinto Temple on Terminal Island between Wilmington and San Pedro was a place of worship for thousands of Japanese who lived there and who either worked as fishermen in the hundreds of boats operating from Fish Harbor or worked in the canneries there. This building was demolished after the Japanese evacuation in 1942.
