Photograph of a citrus exhibit in Toronto that shows a bear, hundreds of oranges and a painting by Chris Siemer of Los Angeles, 1927. Hundreds of oranges drape the walls and the sides of the display table of the exhibit. Baskets of various fruits sit on a bed of grass on top of the table. A doll posed as a dancer stands behind the baskets while a bear stands on two legs behind it. Paintings hang from the wall of oranges on either side of the bear. A sign that reads "Los Angeles County California" hangs over the bear.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
