Description

Photograph of oranges in crates being loaded onto a ship, ca.1930. Several men stand in the foreground looking into the large crevasse of the ship where a pallet of orange crates is being lowered at center. Several more men stand behind the site, one operating the crane. An upper level of the ship can be seen in the left background while a sign reading "H[...]land America Line" stands over what resemble train cars in the right background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
