Description
Photograph of female workers leaving the North American Aviation plant in Downey, September 1950. Three women are walking side by side at center on a wide concrete sidewalk. The plant is behind them and is a large brick building with a curved façade. An awning covers a second-story window at right. Hedges can be seen growing around the perimeter of the building, and a closely trimmed lawn is visible in the foreground.; The missile and control equipment departments of North American Aviation, centered at the Downey, California plant, were created for the purpose of developing long range guided missiles as the logical step for an organization whose policies have continuously expanded the opportunities in Engineering for more than 25 years. Since 1945, the MACE Departments have expanded from a nucleus of a few research engineers to a technical force of more than 5000 persons.
