Photograph of a row of chairs inside the Kong Chew Chinese Temple in Los Angeles's Chinatown, November 1, 1933. The row of carved wooden chairs can be seen against the wall at right. Several tall, narrow posters can be seen on the wall behind the chairs and all bear lines of Chinese characters. In the foreground at left, a counter can be seen. The sides are decorated with carvings of animals, and several vases with flowers in them can be seen on the countertop.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
