Description

Photograph of tuna being pulled into a commercial fishing boat, ca.1920. A tuna fish at the end of a fishing line bends its body in the air to the left of center. The fish is attached tow four lines that seem to come from four fishing poles joined to catch this one large fish. Two hands and three fishing poles can be seen behind a wall on the left. In the foreground, a pile of tuna can be seen inside what appears to be a boat. Water can be seen behind the fish while a large land mass sits in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
