Description

Photograph of Negative print of the Pasadena Freeway, ca.1950-1959. The print is a "negative" version of the view. In the background at center, a wide four-lane freeway can be seen traveling towards the foreground. Tot he left of the freeway, a sign can be seen along a steep slope lined with vegetation. To the right of the freeway, another road is visible passing beneath two large archways. Lampposts line both sides of the freeway. Several automobiles can be seen, especially in the background.

Title Los Angeles Area Chamber of Commerce Collection 1890-1960

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
