Photograph of an aerial view of the construction of the Pershing Square parking garage, looking north, 1950-1959. Pershing Square is at center and is a long, rectangular area bordered by wide streets. The square is flat and empty, and an assortment of trees can be seen along the edges. Wide concrete sidewalks are visible on the edges as well. Several ramps lead from the streets to an underground area, possibly the parking garage, and many automobiles can be seen on the ramps.

Description The more than 3,600 unique photographs of this collection document the Chamber's promotional efforts during the city's early years. In addition to stock photographs, there are pictures of the elaborate booths and displays that the Chamber prepared for use at state fairs and international trade shows. The photographic collection contains images showing the growth of important municipal enterprises, such as ground transportation systems, aviation, and shipping. In addition there are about 1,000 lantern slides in this collection -- not yet fully digitized.
