Description
Photograph of the North Portal of the Figueroa Street Tunnel between Solano Avenue and Bishop road, June 1937. The concrete entrance to the tunnel is at center and the opening is arch-shaped. A square carving in the cement can be seen over the middle of the tunnel. Several automobiles are visible inside the tunnel. At right, a long staircase leads up the side of the hill into which the tunnel is cut. On the hill, many trees grow at left, while several crude buildings can be seen at right.
