Automobiles congest the center of the boulevard, near a cross-street on the corner of which the E. Clem Wilson building can be seen under construction. Commercial buildings line either side of the street, with the houses of the residential area of the city visible in the background. The tower of City Hall can be seen on the horizon to the right.; Legible signs include: "Harter Beauty Salon", "Drugs", "Western Union", "Drive-In Market", "Harold H. Walsh & Co. Insurance Specialists", "Al F. Nugent", "MJB High-test Vacuum Coffee for Extra Coffee Richness", "Victor Radio / E.L. Bowen Music Co.", "Draperies Interior Decorating Slip Covers", "A.W. Ross", "Awning", "Richfield", "6% Mutual Pays 6% on Savings", and "Fox Ritz Theatre".

Description
The nearly 15,000 unique photographs of this collection contain the work of C.C. Pierce which cover the Los Angeles region city, street and architectural views, California Missions, Southwestern Native Americans, and turn-of-century Nevada, Arizona, and California. Pierce, active from 1886 to 1940, was one of the leading photographers of his day and amassed a collection of 15,000 images, including his own and those bought and copied from his contemporaries, George Wharton James and Charles Puck. The James collection contains over 2,000 images of portraits, customs, ceremonies, arts, and games of various groups of Southwestern Native Americans.
