Description
Photograph of a view of Western Avenue looking north from Wilshire Boulevard, ca.1924. Traffic appears congested on the right side of the paved street, making its way across the intersection, at the center of which a traffic light stands. To the right, the Standard Public Market stands on the corner beneath a cluster of billboards, beyond which other commercial buildings can be seen along the road. To the left, the Bank of America is visible flying the American flag, while the one-story Kells and Grant Realty building is visible farther in the foreground. Utility poles line either side of the street, and mountains are visible in the distance.; Other legible signs from left to right include: "Hammond & Pe[...] Auctioneers", "Ford & [...]", "There's no cigarette within a mile of Camel", "Burton", "636 So. Western Ave. William Wilson Co. Real estate, Insurance, Rentals", "Keep an 'extra bedroom' in your closet. Holmes Disappearing Bed Co. Display Rooms -- Grand Floor Pacific Electric Building", and "Paulais. Candies, Pastries".
